Powerful Potatoes

They say that variety is the spice of life and that is certainly true with the potato. The humble potato is inexpensive, tasty and can be used in a number of different ways- your daily beauty regime for example.

During these depressing credit-crunching times, we're all looking for extra ways to make our cash to stretch further, and if using household items to combat some common beauty problems can help us save, then heck we're all for it!

We've already looked at using some nifty tomato techniques and the goodness of using garlic in our beauty regime, so what can a potato offer us in our quest to find the weirdest beauty solutions out there...

Baggy Eyes- Go Away!

Women spend so much money on wonder creams that claim to banish dark circles, when all they really need is a processed potato. Strange, yes but if it can save you a bundle and it works, why not give it a go. Simply chop up a potato and put in a cheese cloth, then place under your eyes for 20 minutes. The sciencey bit behind it is that the catecholase in potatoes lightens skin and in turn it can make those dark circles less dramatic.

Banish Blemishes

Washing your face with some potato juice each day, will actually help to reduce some of those nasty spots that keep appearing. The problem is getting the juice out of a potato, we suggest trying to squeeze it, however if that doesn't work then simply use the water that you've peeled your spuds in- taking care to clear the peelings first!

Potato Mask

Firstly grate some raw potato and rub on your skin, taking care to pay attention to the most troublesome areas. The residue that is left on your face will need to be left on for 30 minutes, before you wash it off with water and vinegar.

Create a Cleanser

A potato cleanser mix? why not?! Firstly blend some chopped cucumber and some chopped potato together for about 20 seconds. It's important that you don't peel either the cucumber or potato as you want the consistency to be a bit lumpy. Next add one teaspoon of baking soda, one egg and 1/4 cup of water, then blend on low for one minute, before applying the mixture to a clean face with a washcloth.
