Catherine Zeta Jones went for the all over colour beauty trend and Hollywood glamour curls

As well as the best dressed and the worst dressed at the Oscars last night, we also get to fawn over the beauty looks of the A List.

Simple, natural glowing make-up was at the forefront of the looks, and like always the updo was a popular hairstyle of choice – obviously worn in very different ways on each of the ladies, and then of course Hollywood Glamour.

Award-winning celebrity hairdresser Jamie Stevens comments on the look:

“The likes of Catherine Zeta Jones, Helen Hunt, Reese Witherspoon and Naomie Harris all played with old school glamour but Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain epitomised this look for me, with on-trend coppery auburn locks that tumbled loosely over her shoulders and complemented her flesh coloured gown and cool skin tone to perfection. Keeping it straighter on the top area of the head brings this 40’s inspired look up to date” said Jamie.

To re-create Jessica’s gorgeous waves, Jamie suggests, “After blow-drying the hair, comb in a deep side parting and set the hair on heated rollers, focusing on the mid-lengths to the ends and leave to set. Once set, brush the curls out using a flat paddle brush and finish with a polishing serum and a hairspray to hold such as Matrix Vavoom Freezing Spray”.

If you fancy changing your hair colour to something similar like Jessica’s then follow these tips from nice’n easy Colour Advisor Jonathan Long: “Jessica’s cool toned skin and green eyes means this auburn shade suits her perfectly. Her uber glam floor-length dress complements her forties waves, making her hair shade the focal point of the entire look. To re-create this gorgeous look at home I’d recommend nice’n easy Permanent in Natural Golden Auburn (£5.99). It gives up to 100% grey coverage, and the unique Colour Blend Technology formula gives you natural tones and highlights.”

Jason Cocking, celebrity stylist and director of Lisa Shepherd London comments shares his views on the updo styles of the evening:

“From head-to-toe, Hollywood’s leading ladies were the epitome of elegance on the red carpet for this year’s Academy Awards. To complement the soft, romantic pinks and greys of their luxurious dresses, hair was kept simple and feminine. The most popular style was the loose, tousled bun, which was favoured by Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Lawrence, Naomi Watts and Jennifer Garner, and was the perfect contrast to their structured dresses.”

Short hair is still definitely a hot trend at the moment, with Anne Hathaway championing shorter locks throughout awards season and also on the red carpet last night were Charlize Theron, Halle Berry and Emmanuelle Riva.

However, it was Oscar winner Anne’s look that also won on the hair front for Jamie Stevens who says: “Last night Anne channelled Audrey Hepburn with her gamine cut that shows off her gorgeous facial features and really shows how feminine and elegant shorter hair can be”.

To create Anne’s sophisticated side-swept style is easy to achieve. Jamie says “Start by prepping the hair for maximum body and texture with a volumising product and as hair begins to dry naturally finish blow-drying with a diffuser, using the hands to shape it into place. Next, use a matt clay or wax to create definition, separation and texture such as Matrix Design Pulse Messy Couture and hairspray to hold”.

Whilst Adele went bold with a strong red lip, the majority of the beauty looks were soft, smoky eyes and pretty make-up.

Venus & Braun Beauty Therapist Nathalie Eleni gives her tips on how to recreate the look:

To complement the delicate, picturesque gowns, stars opted for fresh and subtle make-up. Use a cream blush in a peach tone and apply to the apples of your cheeks, for a faint rosy glow. Then brush a light liquid illuminator over your cheekbones to create a soft focus veil which catches the light and gives a youthful sheen to your cheeks.

For the eyes, always use a concealer over your lids to hide any veins, redness or discolourations. Use a soft kohl on your bottom lid and dot gently between your top lashes to enhance without overemphasising. Curl lashes and apply two coats of mascara for added thickness and highlight the corner of your eyes with a light, metallic eye shadow.

A nude lip colour layered with a subtle gloss to finish the pale and interesting look. TOP TIP: Ensure you exfoliate your lips first and apply a thick, moisture rich lip balm 30 minutes before so lips are in optimum condition.

Catherine Zeta Jones also looked beautiful, in terms of beauty she wore the hot Spring Summer beauty trend of All Over Colour, Michelle White, Creative Director at Frontcover Cosmetics, gives her advice on the look:

“Catherine is wearing the s/s trend of All Over Colour – matching your eyes and cheeks and lips, as seen on the catwalk at Chloe. To get this healthy glow, with a dewy complexion – start with a dewy foundation base and accentuate cheekbones by sucking in cheeks and shading just beneath the cheekbone with a bronze blusher. Dot a lighter, peachier blusher onto the apples of the cheek. Warm smoky eye with a sable brown washed across the eye and deeper brown in the socket line. Her lips were the same colour, bronzy, with detail picked out on her nails with a soft gold polish. Use Frontcover’s All over Colour kit to get the look, and Nail Art Nouveau for this soft gold shade.”
