A natural beauty look is favoured by most

When it comes to make-up less is more with the natural look getting the thumbs up, according to a new poll.

Almost three quarters of people prefer the natural look and said they found too much make-up off-putting.

Only 26% prefered the TOWIE look, saying they love to see women well-groomed and manicured.

A male respondent in the survey said: “The natural look is far more attractive than seeing a woman plastered in heavy make up. Who wants to spend hours waiting for your other half because she has to apply a ton of make-up? Not me.”

The biggest beauty mistake is too much foundation, followed by streaky fake tan.

Almost a fifth of those questioned were united in their dislike of spidery, fake eyelashes whilst 13% voted elaborately painted and over long finger nails as their biggest faux pas.

Trout pout lips came in at fifth place with nine per cent of the vote, with the remaining 11% including things like overly made up eyes, too heavy eye-liner and poorly applied concealer.

However nearly all of those polled said they believed applying a small amount of make up could often improve a look.

One respondent said: “Women should be proud of their looks and shouldn’t feel the need to cake themselves in make-up to look good. I love the natural look – it’s much easier to maintain, shows off natural beauty, meaning I look and feel great without spending hours in front of the mirror.”

Female stars including Holly Willoughby, Keira Knightly, Fearne Cotton and Susanna Reid were highlighted as being particularly attractive in a natural way.

However the likes of Lady Gaga, Tulisa, Katie Price and Holly Hagan from Geordie Shore were deemed to be too heavily made up.

Another added: “I love my make up – always have but as I’ve got older have found myself toning my look down. In my late teens and twenties I never left the house without full make up on but I’ve got better as I’ve got older. I still have to have my full face on to leave the house but I don’t cake it on quite so thick."

A spokesman from FreeDeliveryLand.co.uk, who conducted the research, said: “When it comes to make up, less is definitely more and it’s interesting that so many of our respondents agree that the natural look is far more attractive.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there is no right or wrong amount of makeup to wear – as long as you’re happy and feel good, then that’s all that matters.”
