Almost three quarters of men say they find women more attractive when they wear less makeup; however what they think is the natural look is more likely to take hours of effort and plenty of special makeup tricks.
That’s according to new research today which saw almost a third of men boldly say their partner wears no makeup.
However, when surveyed, only 3% of women said they are completely bare faced at all times, while one in seven admit they’re not always truthful about their beauty regime and sometimes tell people they are wearing less makeup than they really are. But what role does confidence play in our beauty choices and routines?
In seems that cosmetics play a huge part in empowering women as even those looking to achieve a natural look are reluctant to ditch their makeup altogether. In fact, well over two-thirds of women feel most comfortable in their skin once their makeup is applied.
We spoke to Alison Young, QVC Beauty expert about natural beauty and how you can achieve the look.
“Well this season especially with the summer months coming forward it’s all about heat it’s about waterproof make up but it’s also, our survey showed it’s about the natural look, but the natural look can take up to 30 minutes of make-up application to actually achieve during the day and to maintain.”
And it also comes down I guess to a good skincare routine. So which basics should women have in their skincare routine?
“Well skincare routine has got to involve your basics; your cleanse, tone moisturise and it should be skin type specific. So if your oily versus if your ageing or also if you’ve got very sensitive skin issues choose products that suit you and that can actually correct or problem solve. And interestingly nowadays actually look at your make up ingredients. Don’t just stick to the same old brand or the same old product necessarily, see if technology has moved forward. On QVC I have Mally join us, she does Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez, Tart cosmetics, Becca cosmetics lots of really interesting modern brands and the ingredients have changed just like they have in skincare so you can get more results with your make up not just in the texture but also with the skincare performance.”
Furthermore the research from QVC beauty found that 68% of women agree perfectly flawless skin and styled hair are the key ingredients to making them feel beautiful. A third of women also say they feel most confident in the warmer weather, despite the fact that they wear less make up with other big confidence boosters including a compliment from a female friend.
The survey also asked both men and women which celebrity makeup style they rate as the most attractive with men picking Kate Middleton’s natural look, Cheryl Cole’s smokey eye look, and Michelle Keegan’s bronzed goddess look.
Both men and women agree with Kate Middleton also coming out on top for women, followed by Cheryl Cole and Michelle Keegan.
Men rated big eyes, glowing complexion and bronzed skin as the three most attractive physical features, however a good sense of humour and confidence ranked ahead of good hair, good teeth and flawless skin when it comes to qualities they care about the most in women.
Alison Young shares her advice for those trying to create Cheryl Cole’s favoured smokey eye look.
“Well especially through the summer months if we are looking at the ‘Cheryl Cole Smokey Eye’ it is not done so much with eye shadow, you are better off doing it with actual eye tints which are waterproof so like cream shadows that are waterproof so that you can put them on also with your fingers because in the summer months we want something quick and easy but we don’t want it to budge. And of course with the Cheryl Cole smokey eye look then we don’t want it to run on the eye or crease, especially if we are older, so that texture will stay more waterproof and more long-lasting. But interestingly Kate Middleton still comes out top.”
And bronze skin was also a stand out beauty look in this survey but how can women achieve a natural looking tan this summer without overdoing it and turning the dreaded orange?
“Well I think one of the icons that came out who men love and who women love was also Emma Watson, and if we look at her, she doesn’t ever have a very strong tan and modern day self-tan for example is very much these more sophisticated formulas and also a more modern application technique. So an easy thing to do at home right now is actually to make a self-tan formula and mix it up half and half with your night cream or body lotion and that will give a more modern finish and this is the sort of advice that I love to share on QVC all the time - it is just what can you do at home with the products that you have got.”
