After seeing some pictures of the Hollyoaks ladies yesterday going make-up free for a photoshoot, it got us thinking- could we actually do that, even for just one day?
The easy and hopeful answer is yes, of course! and then the true and horribly vain answer, is no- of course we couldn't. Make-up has become part of our identity for years now and is one of the most ritualistic things we take part in on a daily basis.
It's not like we're overly reliant on make-up, but we can't deny that it's been part of our routine for longer than we'd like to admit and as such, going bare faced is something quite scary and new.
We're willing to bet that most of you haven't gone make-up free at all in your adult lives, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Make-up provides security for us, so when we get an irritating spot or look washed out, we all know that the right war paint can sort us out.
We've all been through the embarrassing teenage mistakes, where we end up orange or over pluck our eyebrows to the point where we have to draw them on, but now we've reached adulthood, professionally applied make-up is a given.
Even if it's only the most minimal of make-up applied, putting it on instantly makes us feel better about ourselves, and it's the same with a night out where most of us love to glam it up to the max.
It's part of the privilege of being a woman some would say, that we get to change our appearance so often, without the painful and pricey option of cosmetic surgery!
Having been labelled as pasty when I have ventured out without make-up, not to mentioned being referred to as 'looking ill' I've discovered that the au-natural look apparently doesn't work for me.
But could it work for you? Would anyone really be brave enough to go completely make-up free for work, and still feel confident? The insecurities alone could make you less productive on a daily basis.
We've worn this mask for so long now, by taking it off would it open a whole new can of worms, or would it make us feel liberated and free? Well, the only way to find out is to give it a go and report back with details...
