Applying perfect make-up isn't easy!

Applying perfect make-up isn't easy!

Yes, we know you should be seasoned pros by now on how to apply foundation, considering you lather it on each day without even thinking, but what if you're not getting it right, and as a consequence looking less than fabulous?

As a general rule, we tend to squirt some onto our fingers and plaster it on our face without giving it a second thought. It may be the wrong colour, shade and texture for your skin and because you're so stuck in the habit you don't realise.

We're all guilty of not rubbing it in properly, or showcasing the dreaded tell tale line between your jaw and neck, which can just look plain embarrassing in the light of day.

Not to mention the horrendous satsuma face we've all sported at some point in our lives, so we've decided enough is enough- we're officially waging war on badly applied foundation!

FemaleFirst are going back to basics to show you how to master perfect application. It may not be easy and it may take you longer in the morning, but trust us it's a make-up lesson you'll want to ace.

So, first things first always apply your foundation in natural light where possible, as this will show up all your problem areas and ensure you're using the right shade for your skin.

Next, make sure you use a sheer foundation for every day use, as this is kinder to the skin and looks more natural. Also try to remember that less is more in many cases, so get frugal with your foundation!

Dot the liquid onto your nose, forehead and cheeks, and then blend outwards using a sponge, brush or simply your fingers. Sponges tend to be best and are used by make-up artists wanting to get the best coverage on their models.

Apply one thin coat and then add thin layers only where you need it, so around the nose for example. Finally recheck your handy work in the natural light to make sure you've blended and applied evenly.
