Getting a good night's sleep could all be down to what you weigh, a new study has claimed.
According to Finnish researchers, disrupted sleepers who exercised regularly and followed a strict low-calorie diet slept better, than those who had a calorie rich diet and hardly exercised.
The study also found that the more weight people lost, the better they felt and slept, reports Marie Claire.
Researchers from Kuopio University Hospital in Finland analysed 81 overweight men and women, with a mild case of obstructive sleep apnoea, which is a common condition that causes snoring and gasping among other things.
As part of the research, half of the subjects were limited to 600 calories per day for three months, in addition to receiving counselling and exercise advice.
While the other half were simply given advice on healthy living. the results proved fairly conclusive, with the first group losing more than 20lb on average over 12 months, while the second group managed to just lose less than 6lb on average.
Even more shockingly, almost nine in ten of those losing 33lb or more were then cured of their sleeping disorder.
What's more, the study which is published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, has found that losing weight is the most effective way of beating the disorder in the long run.
