ASTRAL FLIGHT
The hair look at the Issey Miyake AW ’13 show in Paris had an ethereal outer-worldly feel to it.
“The collection contained some amazing printed textiles showing aerial views of landscapes, like you’re floating above the land looking down. This inspired me to create a look that was incredibly light and organic, that moved beautifully on the catwalk and has an energy to it” said Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director, Care & Styling, Wella Professionals.
“The Issey Miyake collection is famed for being very conceptual which made me want to create a contrasting hair look that was organic and looked as if it could be created in five minutes – although the reality is it took a lot longer” said Eugene. The finished hair look appeared light and fresh yet with a definite edge to it, summed up by Eugene as ‘the New Realism’. “This is about creating hair that is not obvious, it’s not obvious how it’s been created and it doesn’t sit with the traditional hair beauty cues. It’s about seeing beauty in imperfection, such as using static to create movement and interest” added Eugene.
Get the Look:
Start with clean freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner, to ensure hair is in perfect condition.
Roughly blow dry the hair, when touch dry, section off the hair and starting from the back, spray Wella Professionals Create Character
Texturizing Spray in to the root sections (this will add volume to the base of the hair and keep it light and dry), and Wella Professionals Perfect Setting Blow Dry Lotion at the ends of the hair and blast with the hairdryer
Re-section the hair and using a soft brush, gently back brush the root sections at a 90Ë angle from the head
Using hair straighteners clamp the root section and run the straighteners through to the ends of the hair
Once the hair has cooled, take each section and gently brush through with a soft bristle brush creating static as you go
Tie the hair in to a ponytail right above the crown of the head, leaving pieces of hair loose at the front of the head
Fold the ponytail back on itself and secure to the base of the ponytail, pinning the hair in place at the back and keeping the end of the ponytail loose
Take the end of the ponytail and backcomb at the roots to create texture and height
Take the remaining front pieces of hair and gently tease back towards the back of the head. Blast the hair upwards with a hairdryer to loosen up the hair, spray with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray
