Long gone are the days of opening your bathroom cabinet and finding just one moisturiser, with the ever evolving market we now have a selection of products to help with every kind of skincare need.
Just when we have finally gained a real understanding of the products we should be including into our daily routine, the industry throws us a curve ball that makes us rethink it all over again.
One such product hailed as “underwear for our skin”, that is taking centre stage as the latest skincare technology, proven to directly deliver active ingredients deep into the skins layers where it is needed most, are anti-aging serums.
Skincare specialist Malvina Fraser shares her top tips and expert knowledge about the importance of incorporating serums into our skincare routine, especially on the lead up to Spring/Summer.
Serums are water based treatments which contain a much higher concentration of active ingredients and nutrients such as Vitamin C, E and K. The molecules in serums are smaller than those in a moisturiser, giving them the ability to penetrate through the pores and deep beneath the skins epidermis absorbing all those good ingredients and nutrients deep within the skins layers, where it is needed most.
This elixir is formulated to target specific skin concerns such as wrinkles, dark spots, acne, pores, fine lines, firming and hyper-pigmentation. While moisturisers are designed to give the epidermis more hydration, they do not contain any of those good nutrients that the skin needs in order to maintain a healthy complexion.
Serums include active ingredients that bring antioxidants to the skin and restore cell growth. They also act as a brightening treatment, an anti-aging prevention and can help with skin complaints such as dry or oily skin. There are no limitations when using a serum, it is suitable for all skin types and are easy to incorporate into your skincare routine.
When coupled together, serums and moisturisers act as the perfect blend that to improve your skin exquisitely. This great ‘tag team’ allows those much needed nutrients to soak deep into the skins layers through the use of serums, while the moisturiser hydrated the outer layers of the skin.
