Use glitter to give a subtle glint to the eye

It’s that time of year when everything sparkles, and that even means your makeup too. Christmas party season is the perfect period to whip out that glitter eyeshadow you’ve been contemplating all-year long.

Now we’re not talking over exaggerated eyes with tonnes of glitter, just a hint of a sparkle is the best way to wear this look. And of course steer clear of it if your outfit is covered in embellishment or sequins, as it’ll start to enter into Drag Queen territory. You’ll want to wear a glitter eye to make an outfit pop. So use it to dress up a pair of leather pants and a silk cami, or wear it with your Little Black Dress to give it a new lease of life.

In reality there’s a glitter eye to suit everyone, and right now is the perfect time to try it out.

So, here we have some simple tips on how to apply glitter eyeshadow.

Of course the first part is picking your glitter; there are plenty of places on the market that have gorgeous multi-dimensional shades for you to choose from. Of course MAC caters for plenty of needs, whether it’s their glitter pots or pigment pots. But if you’re looking for something a little lighter on the purse, I swore by Barry M glitters when I first started to experiment with make-up. Beautiful shades that last really well too. Urban Decay also has some beautiful options and Illamasqua’s pigment pots are something you should definitely look into.

Use an eyeshadow primer to prep the eyes and make sure any makeup doesn’t crease and lasts a lot longer.

If you’re using a bit of glitter to brighten a smokey eye, start with the base colours first and apply your glitter last, and don’t go full on with it, build it up slowly. It’s always easier to add than take away.

If you’re apply glitter or pigment shadows it’s best to keep your skin clean and apply this first as it’s easier to wipe away the mess if you haven’t applied foundation or concealer.

The best possible tip is to use a cream eyeshadow underneath a glitter too, it will give it something to hold on to and you won’t end up with glitter all over your face.
