A new season is here and that means we need to update our beauty look, if you don’t want a new colour (the latest hair colour trends here) then it’s time to try a new style.
But which will you go for?
Cristiano Basciu, Artistic Director at Richard Ward says: “Partings can be considered more important than the cut itself; wear dead-on straight down the middle or deep to one side to create a bold, sharp geometric shape, which helps to add structure and shape to the overall look.”
This look was featured heavily on the catwalks with strong looks covered through Milan, Paris, New York and London.
Cristiano dubs this The Urban Warrior.
“Fierce, fearless and free; the theme of the Urban Warrior steams from the idea of a modern day crusader; a strong woman who celebrates her heritage and bears a non-conformist attitude. This newly carved generation of woman sees her on a journey of discovery, pushing her fashioning abilities to the limit yet always following an ethos for beautiful, healthy, glossy hair.
“Taking inspiration from the fashionable shores of St. Tropez, the Urban Warrior can be found with traditional beachy, almost mermaid inspired tresses during the day, which is synonymous with the summer sun, but takes styling to a new extreme for evening, dousing hair in a wet-look gel for a slick, masterful finish.”
As well as the urban warrior, we have some other suggestions for your locks below:
Long Hair –Free and Fierce
As worn by: Angelina Jolie, Kendall Jenner and Poppy Delevingne
Inspired by sports chic, this season, long hair should look impeccably groomed and glossy with a high shine finish. Layers should be kept long and blunt to emphasise the hairs natural length, and can be styled with a soft, gentle movement towards the end, rather than opting a super straight finish. Keep product to a minimum in order to showcase the hairs natural sheen and colour intensity. To take this look into the evening, use a wet look gel and slick the hair back into a sharp ponytail, which should be secured just above the nape of the neck. Wear with a sharp centre parting for a catwalk-ready feel.
Products: For added movement and body, try Richard Ward Couture Hair Plumpifier Thickening Spray (£19). This spritz, which is particularly great for finer hair, should be applied to the mid-lengths and ends for added movement and bulk building. For the slick evening look, try a gel like L’Oreal Play Ball Extreme Honey (£13.20) which is perfect for slickening tresses and taming pesky flyaway hairs.
Mid-length Hair – The Bob Reinvented
As worn by: Fearne Cotton, Michelle Dockery and Karlie Kloss
Sharp, chic and exaggerated, whatever your hair length, face shape or age, the bob is a cut that can cater for all. Whether your hair is skimming your jaw line or brushing along your collar bone, this style offers a huge range of variations for the summer season. With a style to suit every face shape, this truly versatile cut can be worn slick and straight for evening or with glamorous, almost Hollywood inspired curls in the evening for maximum impact and wow factor.
Products: Shine is everything with this style, so apply Richard Ward Couture Hair Tri-Active Serum with Argan Oil (£27) to tresses before blow-drying through with a radial bristle brush. The Shine Angel (£16.95) brush is
the perfect accompaniment as it grips and polishes the hair for closer contact, resulting in a shinier finish.
Short Hair – 60’s Revival
As worn by: Jennifer Lawrence, Jessie J and Maggie Gyllenhaal
This spring/summer, we head back to the 1960’s for a hair revival. Inspired by Twiggy’s infamous style, short hair should have a grown out feel to it, with slightly more hair on top for extra versatility. This sassy style has a masculine, almost school boy quality to it, yet its solid cut help to give the style a defined shape and elegance. Wear smoothed and glossy or texturized and quiffed for a show-stopping finish.
Products: Shu Uemura Cotton Uzu is a great cream wax which is great for texturising and defining short hair. Simply warm the product between your hands before gliding it through the mind length and ends of hair to create a pliable style with a bespoke finish.
Fringes
As worn by: Lily Allen, Katy Perry and Rhianna
Go hard or go home; this season the statement fringe is back with a vengeance. Bigger and bolder than before, this ultimate hair accessory needs to be full and heavy for maximum impact. For a slightly softer finish, sported here by Lily, gently curl the ends for a gentler, elegant finish that grazes the eyebrows.
Men – natural and textured
As worn by: Bradley Cooper and Tom Hardy
More groomed and neater than last season’s popular style, this spring/summer sees men’s hair revert back to the trim and tidy styling of the past. Keep the sides short and neat and the top an inch or so longer for grooming flexibility and added sharpness.
Products: Use L'Oréal Professionnel Homme Strong Hold Gel through dry hair and comb through for even distribution.
