Hair for Ascot has become easier and less formal than in the old days when hats and hairstyles were worked on to give maximum effect.
Now a ponytail will suffice but, not that there’s anything wrong with a well-groomed ponytail that is beautifully bound, it’s a bit sad if the horses look better groomed than the girls on Ladies Day.
Yesterday we shared some styling tips for wearing a hat this summer, and now we have hair tips to ensure you’re looking your best from top to toe.
So what are the top tips for getting the look right this Ladies Day?
Legendary celebrity hair stylist Paul Edmonds, who has over 30 years in the industry and whose salon was behind Margot Robbie’s latest hair transformation to fabulous redhead, explains:
1. Hair normally looks better worn back and away from the face, especially if it your hat has a large brim.
2. If your hair is long and you want a simple quick ‘do’, try putting your hair in a low ponytail and split the hair behind the band down the middle and pass the tail through itself and pull tight to get a soft, rolled up look.
3. Long hair can also be plated and finished with a binding of ribbon - think chic, not twee!
4. If you have shorter hair, tuck the sides back or leave them out until the hat is on and then fold them back and grip under the hat.
5. Always practice wearing a hat before the occasion as panic does not help give a great style.
6. If all else fails, get a professional blow-dry.
