Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez and Maggie Gyllenhaal all opted for elegant up-do's for the Golden Globes, forecasting a big trend for the upcoming Spring months.

The look had already been sported on the catwalks back in September, with Louis Vuitton, Just Cavalli, Stella McCartney and Louise Goldin all featuring the look on their models.

Whereas in previous years we've seen loose buns teamed with naturally looking make-up, this year it's all about creating a dramatic futuristic effect, which will compliment the new spring trends.

The new scraped back hair-do is perfectly pulled back and held in place, there is no loose strands and nothing left looking messy. The idea is to achieve a very clean look, whether you decide to leave it as a ponytail, or when folding it into a bun.

Once you've achieved the sleek backed do, focus on perfecting the rest of your look. Dramatic red lips and black eyes were the focal point at Louis Vuitton, while at Stella McCartney, the models were given a fresh faced look to coincide with her range of sporty luxe fashion.

Rodarte on the other hand used flashes of orange against a nude background, again making use of scraping back the hair so as not to distract from his SS09 vision.

If you want to achieve this look then make sure to invest in a fine tooth comb, plenty of hair grips, some flat iron spray and a can of hairspray. First, if you're hair is newly washed and dried, spritz some flat iron spray through your hair, just to tame it a bit before you begin.

Once it's more manageable use a brush to pull back all of your hair, starting from one side to the middle and finishing on the other side. Keep brushing to ensure no lumps and bumps are visible and once you're happy, secure in place with a hair bobble.

Check there are no loose pieces of hair and secure with plenty of hair clips, particularly under the ponytail where there tends to be a lot of wispy hair.

Finally, once you are happy with the style, use liberal amounts of hairspray to ensure your new hair-do stays in place.
