There has been a recent rise in reports of dodgy hair extensions that have led to serious scalp damage.
More and more people are complaining about unprofessional extension application that has left them in incredible pain, a major hair company revealed to BBC Radio One.
With a massive 500% increase in the number of salons offering extensions since 2002, it can be difficult to tell the good from the bad but choosing the wrong one can have terrifying consequences.
Side effects of poorly applied extensions include headaches, itchiness and visible adhesive and in some cases can even cause hair to fall out.
"Traction alopecia is what it's called, where the whole hair shaft has been pulled out. It's major damage to a very delicate structure," explained hair scientist Barry Stevens to newsbeat.
"You may get away with having your hair pulled out that way a few times but eventually the follicle will shut down."
So if you want to avoid suffering in the name of nice hair then make sure you check at the qualifications of a hair technician before you part with your cash. And remember if the price seems too good to be true- it probably is!
