During these credit crunching times, a lot of us are having to cut back on our essential make-up and beauty items in order to afford the, admittedly more important, but not nearly as pretty everyday items.
Words like 'credit crunch' and 'recession' are now thrown around the room on a regular basis, and each day seems to bring more doom and gloom. It's fair to say that everyone is feeling the pinch at present, but that doesn't mean you have to cut back too much on your little indulgences.
We here at FemaleFirst have come up with some thrifty solutions to the crisis by showing you how to make the most out of your everyday skin, hair and facial routine.
Two in One
This can apply to any part of your routine, so take note. Shampoos and conditioners in one used to be generally frowned upon, but since hair care has advanced so much, there are now some pretty decent options out there.
If you still don't fancy that then make sure you save your splurges for a decent conditioner, instead of splashing out on an expensive shampoo. Conditioner puts the moisture and softness back into your hair, whereas shampoo merely washes your hair and gets rinsed out almost immediately.
Next start looking at your every day make-up items such as foundation and mascara. Some people use foundation and powder together, but why not get a foundation that has a matte coverage, which doubles up as a powder? The same with a mascara, get one which lengthens and thickens your lashes in one.
Go back to your roots (so to speak)
As much as we all love getting our hair done, the colouring process can be both costly and time consuming. It's also pretty annoying that our expensive new locks don't last that long before the colour starts to fade or the ends start to frizz.
Well, in terms of root touch up, why not get a home hair kit, which will see to your growing roots in a matter of moments, and also save you an extra month from having to book a salon appointment.
Another way to boost colour and shine is to, no joke, rinse your hair in tea. Simply make a brew and filter through your hair around ten times for an instant lift.
Facial Express
Forget expensive treatments, all you need is a bottle of olbas oil and a bowl of boiling water. Simply add the oil, or vicks to the bowl of water and stick a towel over your head.
You may be familiar with this treatment if you have a cold, but it actually works wonders for your skin too, especially if you do it once a week.
Another tip to save some money on skin care is to buy some cheap facial wipes, purely to remove stubborn eye make-up, such as mascara or eyeliner. Invest by all means in some fancy skin cream for your actual skin, but don't waste it on trying to get your eyes clean, you'll end up broke each month trying to replace it!
