Romance is on the backburner for women this Valentine's Day if they're suffering from cold sores.
A recent survey by Blistex has revealed that over half of all female cold sore sufferers in the UK are shunning romance when suffering with a cold sore.
Almost a fifth have cancelled a date once a cold sore blister appeared, and a third have turned their face away or ducked out of a kiss.
With a whopping 60% of the UK population suffering from cold sores, that’s a whole lotta love lost!
What’s more, 35% said they would cancel a date if they were unlucky enough to have a cold sore and 32% said they would hide in public when spotting someone they know, in order to avoid being seen with one.
Worryingly, a quarter of women all cold sore sufferers have refused to leave the house when suffering with a cold sore, showing it’s not just romance at stake – 14% have cancelled an important meeting, and 42% of sufferers have used their hair, scarf or hands to hide cold sores in social situations.
Dr Charles Zugerman, dermatologist and Associate Professor of Clinical Dermatology at Northwestern University Medical School says:
“As the leading active ingredient in the USA, docosanol has set the standard for cold sore treatments, so I would encourage all cold sore sufferers try it for themselves now it’s available in Blistex Cold Sore Cream from pharmacists in the UK.”
