The concept of integrating one product into both our cooking and beauty regime can seem bizarre
Coconut oil really can be one of your most versatile jars in the house. The 100% natural extra virgin organic raw coconut oil is also an essential to nourish hair and skin.
Many beauty products are laden with hidden nasties and ingredients that we can't pronounce, yet happy to put them on our skin. These ingredients offer quick fix results with possible long term detrimental effects.
Doesn't it make sense to use something natural?
Coconut oil removes the hassle of lots of different creams and potions, and is a fraction of the cost. 'Nature's Perfect Ingredient' 'is a perfect all in one beauty essential that will keep you feeling great from head to toe.
Coconut oil is raw, so it retains the most nutrients possible, including a healthy dose of lauric acid and vitamin E. It is unrefined, unbleached and not deodorised, making it perfect for your skin. This premium oil is as pure as nature intended, with a gorgeous texture that your body will love from head to toe.
Here are some of the many ways Lucy Bee can be used to keep you feeling gorgeous in the skin you're in.
Moisturiser
Rich in vitamin E, coconut oil can nourish and moisturise even the driest of skins. In fact, you only need to apply a small amount to massage into your skin.
Coconut oil can help soften the appearance of fine lines and plump the skin. It's even suitable for oily skin types too. What makes coconut oil so great as a moisturiser is that it doesn't need anything else - it works amazingly in isolation.
Make-up remover
Warm a small amount of oil between your fingertips before massaging over the skin and wiping away with a cotton pad or face cloth. It even removes waterproof mascara and can help to strengthen eyelashes at the same time.
Hair conditioner
At least once a week, spend a night in and massage coconut oil into you hair and scalp. Tie your hair up leaving the oil in overnight to condition your hair. It may require a couple of shampoos to wash it out, but you'll find your hair is softer and shinier than ever before. If you often straighten or curl your hair, coconut oil really helps to condition it and control split ends.
Deodorant
Odd as it sounds, this really does work. Rub a small amount under your arms and see for yourself. It can provide a great moisturiser after waxing or shaving too!
Body scrub
Mix coconut oil with detoxifying Himalayan or Epsom salts, to make an incredible body scrub. Also add a thin layer of the coconut oil 'magic' directly onto your body after a shower, making your skin feel amazing and nourished.
Massage oil
Coconut oil is a fantastic massage oil, even for delicate newborn skin.¨Add essential oils to coconut oil if you wish to make your massage a holistic treatment, giving you the flexibility to tailor a detoxifying or relaxing treatment.
Oil pulling
This ancient Ayurvedic treatment rids the body of toxins and may help whiten teeth. Place between a teaspoon and tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and wait for it to melt, then swirl it about, just like you would mouthwash, for anywhere between five and 20 minutes. Spit it out into the bin, rather than the sink, to avoid blocking the drain.
Toothpaste
Coconut oil, mixed with a little bicarbonate of soda and used in place of shop bought toothpaste, will leave your teeth feeling incredibly clean and may look whiter after just a few uses.
How to:
Make your own Lucy Bee body Scrub
- 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
- 1 tbsp Himalayan salt or Epsom salts
- 8-12 drops essential oil (choose rose oil for calming, eucalyptus for energising or lemon for detoxing)
- Dry body brush
1) Place the coconut oil, salts and essential oils in a ceramic dish
2) Mix until thoroughly combined
3) Using a dry body brush, brush the oil all over your body.
4) Always work the strokes of the body brush in the direction towards your heart.
Make your own Lucy Bee Toothpaste
- 1 tbsp coconut oil, slightly softened
- 1 tbsp bicarbonate of soda
- 3 drops edible peppermint oil (optional)
1) Place the coconut oil, bicarbonate of soda and edible peppermint oil, if using, in a ceramic dish and mix well together.
2) Use as you would a normal toothpaste.
Keep this in a small container in the bathroom. The first couple of times you use this toothpaste, you will notice it can taste different from shop-bought toothpaste, but stick with it because you will be pleased with the results. Bicarbonate of soda is softer than tooth enamel so does not damage your teeth.
However it is used, coconut oil delivers high quality nutrients in their purest form. Lucy Bee is available now from Sainsbury's, Booths, Whole Foods, Planet Organic, independent health food stores and online at Amazon RRP £6.00 - 300ml, £9.95 - 500ml and £17.95 - 1ltr.
