It's important that we keep our skin supple

Just because the weather is starting to get warmer it doesn’t mean you can neglect your skin and think it doesn’t need as much moisture as in the winter months.

The heat, especially a strong sun, can dry out the skin fairly quickly.

Not only this but everyday factors can cause your skin to lose moisture too, like a hot bath which removes the moisture from the outer protective layer of the skin, so it’s important to bathe at an appropriate temperature.

Stress also alters the nature of the lipid layers detrimentally, so take some deep breaths and give your skin a helping hand.

Dove technical expert, Andrew Saynor, shares his tips on how to keep your skin supple.

Eat yourself beautiful: Your daily diet plays a key role in maintaining the health of your skin. A balanced diet that contains a wide range of minerals and vitamins is essentials to keep skin functioning at its best.

Post shower application: Take a shower or bath with tepid water and apply a moisturising lotion immediately afterwards while your skin is still slightly damp; this traps water in your surface cells, and keeps skin from looking dry and patchy.

Have a moisturising mantra: To help prevent water loss and preserve a healthy skin moisture balance follow this easy Mantra…

Cleanse: Use a mild, non-soap based cleanser to clean and remove excess oils from the skin. It is important to minimise moisture loss during cleansing.

Moisturise and Replenish: Immediately after cleansing, use lotions to replenish lipids and hydrate the skin.

Protect: Protect skin from harmful and ultraviolet rays by using a broad –spectrum sun bloack every day – even when it’s a little colder.
