Savvy shopping or tight purse strings?

Savvy shopping or tight purse strings?

For many women their daily routine involves a sea of beauty brands and hair styling products; but a survey has found that more and more of us are spending less on cosmetics.

Has our love affair with the beauty aisle come to a bitter end? With so many products claiming to be 'the one' to transform our lives have we finally given up the search and settled for the basic bargains?

Hair extension specialists Additional Lengths carried out a survey of 500 UK home asking how much of their monthly wage they spend on hair and beauty products. The results may make you raise your perfectly drawn eyebrows in amazement; over 50% of respondents spend under £10 a month filling their bathroom cupboard.

Women aged 25-34 are the main target for beauty industry bosses, but the survey showed that there has been a decrease in their spending habits.

Is it a generational trend? Older women still splurge on their cosmetic essentials, but only in small numbers; with just 15% of 55-64 years olds spending up to £50 a month at the beauty counter.

Big spending seems to be a thing of the past with a tiny 1% of people surveyed admitting to spending over £100 on beautifying themselves, with Wales being the place of overflowing make-up bags where 16% of people spend triple figures.

Men are no different; even with male grooming being the buzz of the barbershop, men are still not splashing the cash when it comes to home care. The study found that nearly 60% of men spend under £10 a month. Could the latest fashion for beards and no frills grooming be to blame?

Savvy shoppers seem to be threatening the reign of the beauty giants as many of us still manage to look fabulous without breaking the bank; budget beauty at it's best!
