Black lipstick is what we'll all be wearing soon! Barry M, £4.25

Every season we hear about what is the new 'black' but this season, well.. black is the new black and we're loving it. We always choose black when accessorising our eyes, so this beauty trend just pushes it up a notch or two, by including lips into the mix.

Here's our tips of working the new 'black' into your look- Warning do not try all these looks at once!

Mascara

Go for the blackest mascara out there and go crazy. Layer up your look with lots of coats, so that your eyes really stand out against the rest of your make-up. If possible go for a waterproof mascara and one that gives you lots of volume to create the illusion of fake eyelashes, without all the messy gluing of your eyes together.

Eyeliner

Liquid eyeliner is the best way to get your eyes noticed, as it seems to leave a clearer, more defined line and smudges less. Although this is again probably part of your routine, try using it in a different way. For example use one that has glitter in it so your eyes sparkle on a night out.

Eyeshadow

This is all about working with a new palette. Instead of working with just a standard colour scheme, mix in some darker grey shades, as well as some glittery black colours to give your eyes a lift. Sweep the black on your inner lid and build up to your outer lashes with lighter colours, to give a complete contrast.

Lips

Yes, we know the idea of black lips conjures up the image of teen goths, but in case you haven't had it drummed into you enough, Dark Romance is in! Anyway, black is just one shade darker than burgundy, which is practically black anyway, so don't be afraid to experiment. The key to making this look work is to use a matte lipstick first, then use a gloss to finish the look- you'll be irresistible.

Nails

This is probably as hardcore as you've ever gone with black make-up, so if you don't fancy trying to black up your lips just yet, then get yourself a quality nail varnish. Cheap varnishes tend to chip quickly and if you are going to brave painting your nails so dark, then chipped nails just wont do. First file your nails until they are all a similar size and shape and then choose a quick drying option, which allows you to attend to your nails in a rush, should you need to.
