Have you always been interested in beauty?
Yes, in particular skin care. I've always tried to look after my skin, because when my skin looks good, I feel so much more confident.
What made you want to develop a beauty range?
It actually started with just one product that I formulated and made at home - the Tropic Body Smooth Refreshing Polish. I loved the feeling it gave to my skin and the fact that it was 100% natural, so I started selling it at Greenwich market alongside school and uni. Within a few months I had so much positive feedback from my regular customers that I decided to develop some more products to suit different skin needs. Over many years of development, we now have 8 products in the range.
What's so different about this range?
Tropic Skin Care is the epitome of purity and freshness; working natural skin miracles whilst maintaining cruelty free and vegan ideals. We pack our products to bursting with purely plant-derived ingredients, vitamins and antioxidants that revitalise skin to leave it fresh, flawless and naturally glowing.
Our products are freshly hand made in Great Britain and we list all our ingredients in plain English so you don't need a chemistry degree to understand what you're putting onto your skin.
Who is targeted towards?
As a very affordable natural skin care range, Tropic is targeted towards anyone who is skin health conscious, particularly beneficial for those with sensitive or damaged skin.
What did you learn from The Apprentice that you've used in creating and developing your idea?
The Apprentice taught me some key life skills, but the biggest lesson was realising just how much you can get done in a day if you really applied yourself. During The Apprentice, we started 12 businesses in the course of 12 weeks in areas that were completely new. It really makes you think that anything is possible. With this thought in mind, I've tried to push the boundaries in skin care innovation, and create a brand that I'm incredibly proud of.
How much has The Apprentice helped you with this venture?
The Apprentice has been a real turning point in my life, as it ended with an investment from Lord Sugar. This was a huge boost in confidence, and with his support, I was able to take Tropic to where it is today.
What business plans/ventures would you like to take part in, in the future?
I'd love to get more involved with party planning for Tropic. We already have 350 consultants nationwide hosting Tropic parties and I'd love to see this number grow.
What's your favourite and recommended piece from the range?
My favourite product is the Tropic Smoothing Cleanser - It's an essential part of my daily regime as it dissolves makeup effortlessly while providing gentle moisture for the skin. It's packed with wonderful plant extracts such as Green Tea and Avocado and comes with a free Organic Bamboo Cloth to buff away dead skin cells and steam the skin. The result: beautifully clear and refined skin!
The range is availble to buy now online at www.Tropicskincare.com and ranges from £4.49 to £19.95.
