Is taking supplements going to benefit your skin as well as your health?

It makes logical sense that the foods we eat can affect how look, because we feel it ourselves when we've been eating particularly naughty foods or drinks, so of course it impacts upon our skin too. But what about supplements? Can they help us to age gracefully too?

Alice Hart-Davis, highly regarded health and beauty journalist, addressed this question at the Anti-Ageing Beauty & Health show held at the London Olympia show this past weekend.

She discussed the different kinds of supplements, talked about specific brands, and most importantly what we should be looking out for when we're buying into beauty supplements ourselves.

Alice listed the benefits to taking supplements, as they can help fill the gaps in nutrition.

  • They add micronutrients to the diet
  • They’re especially great for people who don’t like eating certain foods
  • Reduce inflammation

If you’re taking particular supplements they will help with targeted health problems too, Vitamin A helps cell repair and Lycopene found in tomatoes helps with anti-ageing and our natural SPF barrier too.

Alice listed just some of these brands to think about if you’re looking for supplements:

Colladeen: Helps to reduce spider veins and have an SPF of 10

Perfectil Platinum: Helps against the effects of winter weather on the skin and help to smooth it out

Dove Spa Strength Within: Fights wrinkle depth

Murad: These are great holistic supplements that have all-round benefits

Pure Gold Collagen: Moisture retention of the skin

Imedeen: Improves skin density, skin quality and moisture balance.

The important thing to note too is that taking supplements won’t just change the skin on your face; you’ll feel it all over your body.

And Alice’s final tip is to look at the supplements with proof. Those who have the medical studies to back up their claims, much like those she has listed above.

Will you be adding beauty supplements to your skincare routine?
