On her detox break in the Caribbean Amy Winehouse has been snapped using the trapeze in an effort to get into shape and she's not the only one, Sadie Frost is also a fan of using the circus technique to tone up. It seems when it comes to exercise, the big top is the place to be.
And why not? After all acrobat performers show off their toned bodies in leotards night after night, who wouldn't want a figure like them! And if the moves can get Winehouse looking fit and healthy that will be all the proof we need.
You don't need to be bendy enough to cross your legs behind your neck to try circus techniques, you can transform the routines into at home methods.
Swap throwing yourself into back flips for bending over an exercise ball. Stretch backwards over the ball and try and raise yourself up, stretching your back out. Raise as high as you can and hold for 30 seconds then repeat five times.
Instead of installing a full on trapeze in your bedroom, instead get a cheaper, Chinning Bar, about £10. Attach it inside door frame and pull yourself up, arms bent, lifting your feet off the floor and then lower slowly. Try to do between five and ten of these to improve your strength and add tone to your biceps and triceps.
If it's your tummy that you want to work on grab a hula hoop and twirl for as long as you can, as you improve and keep the hoop up for longer, test yourself by adding more hoops.
Swap balancing on the high wire for balancing on a pillow, much easier we'll sure you agree! Balance on the pillow on one foot, with the other bent at a 90 degree angle, tighten your stomach muscles and hold for as long as you can but aim for about a minute.
Trying these easy techniques to improve your strength and flexibility. If these aren't to your liking you could always try the clown school!
