Following Christmas and New Years, the official period of over indulgence, everyone seems to be on a detox, however most of the products we are using don't actually work and some can even be toxic, The Mirror reveals.
Research carried out by 300 scientists, who looked at 15 top products found that in most instances there was no scientific evidence that the products work.
The experts looked at products including food. body brushes and foot patches, all promising to cleanse the body and flush harmful toxins out. In actual fact they found that you are better off drinking lots of water and eating a healthy balanced diet.
The Voice of Young Science network report says: "The substances on sale could be untested, potentially dangerous or even toxic."
Test on products found that few improved liver or kidney functions and high doses of other products could prove toxic.
One product, Vitabiotics Detoxil 15 Day Detox Support has now been dropped by it's makers.
