Fake tans should be changed every 12 months

What could be worse than dry mascara, flaky powder and goopy foundation? Well the answer is nothing! It's beyond annoying when your daily routine is broken because of dodgy make-up.

We're all guilty of wearing our concealers and eye pencils down to the nib, using our mascaras a bit longer than is necessarily hygienic, and of course not changing our make-up brushes not nearly enough times in a year.

Well, fear not beauty novices because FemaleFirst are here with a guide to when you should change your make-up, and beauty routine at certain points throughout the year.

Today we're looking at what you should be changing every 12 months, after revealing yesterday how you should be ditching all cream based products after six months use.

So after clearing out your make-up bag of old mascaras, foundations and moisturisers, now it's time to look at your fake tan and body lotion products that you may have lying around.

Finding a good fake tan is like finding a needle in a haystack, so when you do actually find the one for you, it's tempting to make it last for as long as possible.

However, when you hear our warning you may be inclined to use your fake tan well within its sell-by date, as using an out of date product could turn your skin green!

Tans that have gone off go a different colour, so the clue is in inspecting your product each time you use it, and if you suspect it's coming to the end of its shelf life then get rid.

It's a similar story with body lotions- their colour will change slightly and it may have a a different smell after time, so make sure you keep an eye on it!

Tomorrow we'll be looking at products you should be changing every 18 months.
