Madonna

Madonna

Madonna has just reached her half century birthday and proves it is possible to still look fabulous at 50- but like millions of other women she still needs a little help from a surgeon.

Madonna's youthful looks have allegedly been recently assisted by the hand of a cosmetic surgeon in preparation for hitting this landmark in her life. Whether this is true or not, Madonna has certainly set the standard for 50 year olds everywhere.

SurgiCare, one of the leading UK cosmetic surgery providers has announced that 50 is in fact the most popular age for face, neck and eye lifts. This may be down to the realisation that we are no longer perceived as 'young' once hitting the half century mark and are entering 'old' territory.

Mark Bury, chief executive at SurgiCare said: "50 really IS the new 40! Madonna showcases how beautiful and fresh it is possible to look at 50, in fact she is probably the envy of quite a lot of 20 and 30 somethings."

"Women do tend to panic when they hit 50. This is probably down to the 40's still being perceived as fairly young - 50 seeming much older. We get a lot of 50 year olds through the door that have decided the time is right to reverse the ageing process and bring back their more youthful looks, it's probably a form of denial, but why not."

"If you can look 40, why look 50! We are always realistic with our patients, we may not be able to turn them into Madonna over night, but we can certainly assist with the fight against ageing. A lot of our patients treat themselves to a face lift as a special present to themselves on their 50th birthday, it's quite a trend."

A face-lift is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure for 50 - 55 year olds with a 60% increase since 2007. Blephoplasty (eye bag removal) is the second most popular procedure for this age range, seeing a 52% increase since 2007 - many patients under go both at the same time - the combined procedure is up by 44% since 2006.
