John Galliano AW09

John Galliano AW09

In our last beauty rundown of the season, we turn our attention to the amazing make-up looks that came from Paris.

This was by far our fave fashion week out of the lot, not least because there was an amazing celeb turnout compared to New York and London. Milan had faired slightly better, but there's no doubt this season belonged to Paris.

So, what were our favourite catwalk looks? Well, we have to start off with the brilliant and dramatically OTT Alexander McQueen show, which was the highlight of fashion week.

Scary clown faces, exaggerated lips, ghostly white faces and elaborate headwear were the focal points of the collection, giving the fashion pack a thrill like never before.

While there is no way we could replicate this look in real life, the sheer imagination behind his beauty look for the show was breathtaking.

It seemed as though McQueen had started a trend though, as white faces seemed to be a beauty look employed by many designers for their catwalks this season.

Dior bleached their model's eyebrows, and drew new thin lines on, completing the look by painting their faces white, while Viktor and Rolf took it to the next level by leaving their model's faces devoid of make-up, and just pasting on white face paint.

One of our favourite 'pale' looks came courtesy of John Galliano, who gave us a winter wonderland adventure with his collection. His model's faces were again very pale, with painted on eyebrows and flushed cheeks.

Their eyes were exaggerated with false eyelashes and their lips painted in a pursed position. He completed the beauty look with masses of glitter in their hair and on their faces. Stunning.

YSL took their pale look to the extreme with minimal make-up and full red lips, coupled with a strange leather turban wound tightly, around their model's heads.

It's not really a practical look, and to be honest it looked a bit painful to wear, but maybe you can replicate the look with a hairband to sample YSL's main beauty look for AW09.
