The Hunger Games is set to be the biggest release of the month, the LA premiere has already happened and tonight sees the London one.
Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss Everdeen in this highly anticipated book adapted into a film.
“Jennifer Lawrence’s character in the upcoming film The Hunger Games wears this tough and tousled asymmetric French plait so effortlessly that it has all the makings of becoming an iconic hairstyle this summer," explains Mark Woolley, celebrity stylist and creative director of Electric Hairdressing.
"I love that a literal twist has been added by starting the braid from behind the left ear and plaiting it across the base of head to the opposite side so you get a glimpse of the braid from every angle.”
He explains how you can get the look:
Step one: Although post-styled or day old hair works best as there is more grip, clean hair can be prepped with some L’Oreal Professionnel Full Volume Extra Mousse (£10.10) whilst it is still damp. This gives the roots and lengths an overall boost of volume and body without weighing it down. Also, scrunching the hair in your hands as you go along will really help to add texture as you blow dry.
Step two: Create an off-centre parting before blow drying the hair using a Denman Bristle Brush (£8.09) to help detangle the lengths gently. If your hair still needs more texture, you can use the brush to backcomb the lengths slightly – this will help to create a fuller and larger plait as well.
Step three: Now gather the hair from just above the left ear and divide it into three sections before braiding, bringing in additional strands as needed. Follow the braid across the nape of the neck onto the right hand side until the hair drapes over the shoulder. Remember that it is OK if your plait isn’t perfect - this makes the plait look lived-in! Secure the ends with a clear elastic band.
Step four: Finally, tease out shorter strands of hair around the sides of the face to help create a slightly unfinished look and use a texturising product like Electric Shaping Paste (£14.50) to give the ends a silky, worn-in effect. Wind the strands around your fingers to encourage shape and texture.
