How to do: Striped pink and purple manicure

If you're looking for simple ways to brighten up your nail art this season then we have a great way for you to get quick results for maximum impact.

One of the most popular trends this year has been crackle nail polish. It's great for adding texture to the nail and offers something more than the plain block colour.

Our top tips for using crackle nail polish are:

1. Keep the layer as thin as possible - if your coat is too thick then it won't crackle and you'll be left with an uneven, block colour.

2. Try not to overlap when coating the nail - whichever direction you're applying the varnish, make sure you only don't overlap when applying. If you do, the finish won't be even and you'll miss out on the full effect.

3. To mix it up and make the most of your crackle polish, change directions when applying - Don't just go for the plain verticle, you'll get some great crackles when applying horizontally or diagonally. Have some fun!

To achieve this bold, bright manicure you'll need:

- A base colour (The bubblegum pink in this case)

- A crackle polish, colour of your choice (Purple from Nails Inc)

So...

Start by adding two coats of the base colour and leaving to dry thoroughly. This needs to be dry before adding any other colours as you don't want the purple to drag the pink off.

Decide on where/what you want the lines of the crackle polish want to look like. A top tip: If you put the lines in different places it will seem more rustic and therefore intentional if you happen to make a mistake.

Add a thin layer of the purple crackle polish to the top and bottom of the nail to created the diagonal striped effect you see here.

The crackle polish isn't necessary, it just helps to add the funky texture to the nail.

Leave to dry and add a topcoat of clear gloss and you're done.

Another tip: The animal print is not just a trend that's popular in fashion at the moment, but with beauty too. We're seeing so many wraps and stickers for us to show our wildside.

Substitute the purple and pink for a black and white or a gold/orange and black and you to can create your own zebrah or tiger nail art without having to pay extra for the stickers or wraps!
