We all know that sunlight can cause problems for our skin, but did you know that it can be the summer in general that is a difficult season for the skin? The heat, the burning, the redness and of course the sweating.
One of the main issues, particularly for our faces, starts the moment we sit ourselves down by the pool for some light sun bathing and relaxation. The combination of foundation (no matter how little you wear or residual from the day/night before), sun cream and persparation is a cocktail for clogging up those pores resulting in an uneven tan, burning and blackheads.
If all else fails, you could always treat yourself to a spa day at the hotel. Well, if needs must...
That is to say that there is no reason that you can't wear makeup on holiday. Rather than using an oily or heavy foundationt then use a light or mineral based one. A mouse works just as well - apply lightly and remember to wash off thoroughly on the evening.
Find yourself a good foam wash too as this will help to really give those pores a good clean. It is also a little less coarse for the skin than a scrub, particularly if you suffer from sensative skin or redness. The foam will help to relieve the pores of dirt, oil and products that water and showering sometimes finds it tough to shift.
Even though you're applying sun lotion, a moisturiser is still needed to help look after your skin throughout the summer. If you're concerned that it will make your skin oily using both then stick to using the moisturiser every evening so it has through the night to soak into the skin, ready to work it's magic for the next day.
As well as using the right products, you can make sure you're eating the right things to keep your skin healthy and free from acne, blakheads, cracking and peeling. Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables and milk can offer your skin a healthy glow and helps the skin to repair itself - meaning bruises and scars go away much easier!
Avoid using soaps on the face this summer as they can dry out the skin. No matter how much you swear by it, it can remove moisture from the skin. Instead go for a cleansing gel that will help to keep skin hydrated when spending long days out in the sun.
A handy hint: For getting rid of puffy eyes, crows feet or tired looking eyes then using cotton wool soaked in milk is a good way to cool down the eyes and to help them relax. This can be especially handy if you're squinting in the sun or in and out of the pool all day.
Who knew that holidaying could be so stressful on our faces?
