We never had Hilda Ogden down as a beauty icon but it seems that Rochas disagree with us as they sent hairnet wearing models down the catwalk in their Paris Fashion Week show on Thursday.
This retro style also has a celebrity following with Angelina Jolie going for a similar style to the Berlin premiere of Benjamin Button pulling her hair back in a granny-style bun.
At Rochas models' hair was fingerwaved to give it a bit of lift at the front and then gathered back into a bun and covered with a hair net. The look had a real 1940s forces sweetheart to it.
To re-create the look yourself, using wet hair, comb a section at the front of your head into ridges and curves with your fingers. Place your finger where you want the waves to begin then press the comb against the side of your finger. In one-inch sections, drag the comb sideways along the finger until a ridge forms. Without lifting the comb, lay it flat against the scalp.
Next, put your index finger next to the middle finger and gently press the ridge to hold it tight. Turn the comb teeth back to vertical and comb the hair out and curved back in the opposite direction. Shift your middle finger down so that you can continue building the ridge as far as you want. You should end up with a ridge of hair moving in one direction and a "c-shaped" wave in the opposite direction.
Twist the length of your hair into a low bun at the back of your neck, secure and cover with a coloured hairnet. Rochas used mint green nets but you could go for fuchsia or yellow to bring the look up to date.
Complete the wartime look with thick black eyelashes and neutral brown eyelids and red lipstick, a la Lisa Snowdon. Perfect!
