Has big bouncy hair could have had it's moment as ponytails are back! The schoolgirls favourite is cropping up on the catwalks and red carpets courtesy of Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore.
It's not just a simple case of tying your hair back though, the look has been given a few modern twists for 2009.
Sectioning your ponytail was big news at Gottex and Heatherette. Pull your hair back into a smooth, tidy ponytail and then use elastics down the length to separate it into even sections. Them pull the sections out slightly to create volume.
Messy ponytails are an edgy way of wearing this style. Jennifer Aniston tried it for the premiere of He's Just Not That Into You and Twenty8Twelve did it for their London Fashion Week show. Gather your hair back casually, using your hands, not a brush. Secure it them pull a few pieces out at the side of your face to frame it.
If you want something a bit more sophisticated make like Drew Barrymore and Barbie of all people! Her full ponytail on the top of her head, was completed by wrapping a section of hair around the elastic. Ok we know it's not a new look but if it's good enough for the red carpet now it's gonna be big news so get practicing!
The final new take on the pony tail is to combine the style with a quiff at the front of your head. Blugirl took the look to the catwalk and celebrities like Gwen Stefani are fans. Backcomb the front section of your hair and then smooth over and secure with hairspray. Pull the rest of your hair back into a tidy ponytail, leaving the front section high and bouffant-like.
So who said ponytails were boring? You just need to know how to tweak them!
