Messy plaits at Twenty8Twelve

Messy plaits at Twenty8Twelve

If you want to try something new with your hair then look to London Fashion Week for inspiration where braiding was the hottest word in hairstyles.

Plaits are nothing new but we bet you haven't tried them since your school days. Thanks to Sienna Miller's Twenty8Twelve, Margaret Howell and PPQ catwalk shows braids are officially cool.

At PPQ long chunky plaits hung casually over models shoulders. Stylist Duffy told Grazia: "It's got the side parting of the 1920s and the flamboyance of the 1970s."

Hair extensions are the key to this look as the plait should be long and thick. start from the nape of the neck and plait while the hair is over the shoulder so it stays sat there.

At Twenty8Twelve hair was pulled back into a high ponytail with messy corn weaves along the side of the head. This is a great way to touch on the trends with a sexy edge.

If you can't corn weave just plait hair as tight to the side of the head as possible and collect the ends in a ponytail at the back. Remember it's supposed to be messy so just plait a few sections randomly. Complete the look with a quiff at the front of the hair.

Models at Margaret Howell had plaited section across the crown of their head, going from the side parting to behind the ears. This might be a trickier look to do yourself but fortunately plaited headbands are all the range on the high street right now.

Pick one up yourself, please make sure you get the right hair shade, for the cheats way to this look. As the plait isn't going to come from the parting brush your hair back into a messy ponytail or bun so that you have no parting. Pop the hairband on and voila! The easiest way to a catwalk look!
