Demand for fake hair extensions have risen by 40 per cent in recent years but according to experts, they are ruining women's hair permanently.
The accessories are more popular now than ever thanks to celebrities such as Cheryl Cole and Naomi Campbell who are rarely seen without them.
Katie Price spent £11,000 on extensions earlier this month but it didn't go as she expected and was forced to pay another £45,000 to fix the botched job.
Former Friends actress, Jennifer Aniston, had a similar experience.
She said: "I decided to have extensions, never knowing you end up with 400 things in your head that cause your hair to break off.
"Nothing destroys hair faster than extensions."
