Awards season is here and with this comes the starlets with the Couture dress, perfect make-up and silky hair.
Everyone on the red carpet wants to be noticed, and careful planning is needed to ensure they look amazing on the night. Preparation is everything when you have a big event coming up.
Whether it is the Oscars, a party or a wedding, you want your hair to look its very best. Here are some top tips from celebrity hair stylist Mark Hill to make sure you hair is always red carpet ready.
- Make sure your hair is in the best condition possible – make weekly conditioning treatments part of your beauty routine. Hair in good condition is strong, silky soft, has a great natural sheen and will make styling much easier.
- Think about what kind of look you want to go for, and what you will be wearing. Your hair should complement your clothes, not clash. For instance, if your dress is off the shoulder, putting your hair up, or over to one side, can emphasise your neck or special necklace. However, just by pulling a few loose strands down to fall on your shoulders will soften the look completely, adding a very feminine and a softer touch to the style.
- Don’t go for a radical style or colour change on the day of your event. Visit your hairdresser at least a week before, giving you a little time to play with your new look.
- On the big day, remember to put a buttoned or zipped top on before you either visit the salon or start styling yourself. Many a time I have heard of people taking hours to get the perfect hairstyle, only to find they have a polo neck on and have to cut if off!
- For the event, pop a couple of hair grips and a small bottle of gloss spray into your hand bag, just in case you need any touch-ups through the night.
Make sure you're ready for your big even with these helpful tips that will ensure your hair stays party-ready when you need it to most.
