Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly been blasted by health experts after she claimed shampoo could be linked to cancer.
The actress reportedly wrote on her website, goop.com about some research she had read, about what she calls "environmental toxins", which are thought to be found in products, such as shampoo and lotion.
According to ContactMusic, Gwyneth then goes on to claim that these toxins could be linked to a rise in diseases, such as cancer and asthma in children.
She also warns pregnant women to be careful with what they use. She writes:"Foetuses, infants and toddlers are basically unable to metabolise toxins the way adults are, and we are constantly filling our environment with chemicals that may or may not be safe."
However, her health fears are apparently unfounded, with leading bacteriologist Professor Hugh Pennington slamming her claims as "loopy".
He says, "It does annoy me when celebrities use their position to spout nonsense. They have a perfect right to their views, even if they are loopy, but they do hold a position of influence," reports ContactMusic.
Pennington is not the only expert to disagree with Paltrow's claims, as British charity Cancer Research UK have also dismissed her theories, claiming there is no evidence to support her ideas.
