Christmas is here and if you're still not sure on how to wear your hair, then we have the tips to get that perfect 'do.
Kenna, ghd Creative Director and stylist to the stars, is on hand to offer his expert advice. Whether it’s a bouncy blow dry or classic curls, Kenna is here to tell us how to achieve effortlessly chic styles this Christmas.
Get the Look: The big bouncy blow dry
“Today’s blow dry isn’t about flat lengths scooped under; the style is big, loose and sexy hair with movement, volume and shine.”
GET THE LOOK:
- To begin, towel dry hair leaving in as much moisture as possible
- Apply ghd style root lift spray from roots down and ghd style total volume foam from tips up. You will want to start by drying the roots to activate the root lift spray; this product is great for the whole length of the hair because it adds texture
- Flip your head upside down and continue drying with your fingers, keeping your ghd air on low speed and low heat—let gravity help you build volume
- Once your hair is close to dry, turn up the heat on the ghd air and flip your head back up, continuing now with a ghd Ceramic Radial Brush. I like a soft no-parting look so really work the brush around the head, starting from the front, in all directions. When using a radial brush keep turning it back away from the face as you pull up from the roots. Keep the ghd air nozzle close and move your hair around both the underside and the top of the brush
- Make use of the cool shot button on ghd air to fix the style, bringing a cool shot of air over the hair as you dry with the radial brush will fix it in place. Once the hair is completely dry and volume perfected, a blast of cold underneath the style will give it a tousled look
- To complete the look use the ghd style final fix spray to give hold and shape to your volume
Get the Look: Classic Curls
“For a natural look shake your head from side to side letting the curls you’ve created fall naturally around your shoulders"
GET THE LOOK:
- To begin, apply ghd style root lift spray from roots down and ghd style total volume foam from tips up, to towel dried hair, to create a big bouncy blow-dry style with your ghd air dryer
- You will want to start by drying the roots to activate the ghd root lift spray and continue by flipping your head upside down and keeping ghd air on low speed and low heat; let gravity help you build volume
- To create the curls I would recommend using the finger pin technique. Firstly wrap 2cm squares of hair round a finger, release finger keeping your hair in a coil, then heat the coil with the ghd metallic styler for 4-6 seconds – watch a beautiful finger curl appear. (For larger waves follow the steps above but this time wrap 3-4cm squares of hair round a finger instead.) Once all hair is complete shake your head from side to side letting the curls fall naturally
- Finally, hold your style in place with ghd style final fix spray to ensure your curls stay big and bouncy all day
Get the Look: Sleek up-do
“Ponytails have now migrated for winter to the nape of the neck and the optimum parting has shifted from the middle too”
GET THE LOOK:
- Dampen the hair and spray with ghd style heat protect spray to give structure. Follow with a couple of pumps of ghd Style total volume foam to add backbone to the hair
- Using the ghd air and a ghd Natural Bristle Radial Brush smoothly blow dry your hair adding a light touch of ghd style smooth & finish serum to the ends
- Use a ghd Tail Comb to create a deep side parting. Let the wider section of hair drop slightly on the forehead, whilst pulling the thinner section of hair straight back to add severity and sophistication
- To finish the look, secure the hair at the back, with your preferred style. I like a low ponytail where you can also run the ghd metallic styler through the ends of the hair to achieve unparalleled shine
- Spray hair with ghd style final fix hairspray to set the look
Get the Look: Playing it straight
“This season add a bit of bounce and texture to your hair to give an edgier take on the classic straight look”
GET THE LOOK:
- Start by prepping hair with ghd style total volume foam to create texture and apply ghd style heat protect spray to guard your hair from heat
- Blow dry your hair with the ghd air lifting at the roots and round off the ends to create a sleek style with body. The ghd natural bristle radial brush (size 4) is great for this.
- Using your ghd metallic styler clamp the hair, pull through slightly twisting at the ends to shape the hair around your face
- Complete the look with a light spray of ghd Style final shine spray to give your hair a sleeker look
