There was a day when a simple but hard-working foundation could be bought for a reasonable price.
Now however, we are faced with an array of powder, liquid and mineral foundations all claiming to smooth, tone and hide blemishes. So, to put an end to all the confusion we have tried and tested all the best foundations to figure out which one is worth your money.
First on our list is No7 Instant Radiance Foundation, priced at £10.28 from Boots. This liquid foundation is complete with energising complex vitamins C and E to help protect and revitalise dull-looking skin. It has a silky and moisturising formula which reflects light to boost the skin's appearance. This makes it look luminous and naturally flawless. The foundation is light and doesn't make the skin appear greasy even after it's light reflecting technology. It's a good price too. 7/10
Next, we have Benefit Some Kinda Gorgeous Powder Foundation, available at Boots for £19.09. The cream-to-powder formula is oil-free and creates an soft skin finish, which looks both natural and flawless. The skin is left feeling silky, without the heavy look or feel that some foundations create. This foundation has a good texture and feels really light on the skin, but we're not convinced by the price for what we get. 5/10
L'Oreal Perfect True Match Minerals Foundation is next and is priced £13.99, from Superdrug. The True Match foundation claims to perfectly match the colour and texture of your skin. However, the coverage of this foundation was too light and it didn't appear to cover blemishes as well as some of the others tested. L'Oreal researched into the skin-tones of women from around the world, and developed a unique palette of 12 skin shades. But the powder felt to loose and for the price we weren't impressed. 3/10
Next we have Rimmel Cool Matte 16hr Mousse Foundation, from Superdrug at £5.99 This air light mousse claims to last for up to 16hrs and has a smooth and light texture. It feels comfortable enough to wear all day long, however it is hard to blend and has a slightly cakey texture to it. Great price thought and a good selection of shades. 6/10
MAC Mineralise Satin Finish Foundation is available to buy online from MAC cosmetic stockist for £62.00. This foundation is definitely an expensive spend, but it manages to blend natural light-reflecting properties with a satin finish. This foundation helps make your skin appear radiant, healthy and re- energized. It also contains vitamins A, C and E to help nurture the skin, and includes UVA/UVB and SPF 15 sun protection. If it wasn't for the price tag, this foundation would receive top marks. 9/10
Finally we have Dior Pure Light Sheer Skin-Lighting Foundation, available to buy from Boots for £23.00. As a special treat this liquid foundation from Dior is quite expensive. It claims to make glowing skin is within reach, and is formulated with an exclusive Light Essence complex. This foundation has a silky, oil-free texture to it and feels soft and gentle on the skin. It is SPF 15 too, which is essential for make-up which is worn everyday. 8/10
