The choice of eye shadow can make or break an outfit. So with 2009 looming close we have the latest eye looks to see you through till next Summer. The dramatic smoky eye is one of today's most impact-making make-up statements.
We've seen throughout autumn and winter a raw and gritty smoky eye, which was really in tune with this seasons must-have rock-chic vibe and masculinity trend. But come 2009 the smoky eye is being transformed into glamour and lust, in three very different new looks.
Firstly, there is the metallic brown eye - which looks expensive and timeless. Oscar De La Renta and Valentino both previewed looks with chestnut and deep browns, on their S/S 09 collections. This look creates fantastic drama around the eyes, with gold and bronze giving eyes a bejewelled effect. The metallic brown eye is a lot easier to wear than the other pitch-black smoky eye looks, that have been popular the last few season.
Next, inspired by 1970's siren Brigit Bardot we have the smoldering black eye. The key to this look is smudged ebony eyelids and enough black shadow to create a black latex look on the lids. Use eyeliner on the inner rims to further accentuate a dramatic feline shape to the eye. Designers, Louis Vuitton and Roberto Cavalli showed this look on the catwalk during their latest collections.
The final look for S/S 09 is the constructed black eye. This is the most contemporary version of the smoky eye to come out during the shows. This look isn't about smudging or blending, but more about using lines and strong shapes to create a bold and graphic look. The constructed black eye has a felt-tip effect to it and was seen on the catwalks of Lanvin and Miu Miu.
These three top eye looks for 2009, should leave you smoldering right into the year!
