Detoxify Yourself This Christmas

After over indulging at those office Christmas parties, over the past few weeks, we bet you're feeling a tiny bit weak and sluggish, not to mention exhausted at the minute.

Well, don't panic because FemaleFirst is on hand to get you back to your best, with the help of some festive detox plans and helpful hints on feeling great this Christmas.

Over the next week we'll be exploring different ways to detox, from cutting out alcohol, to upping your fruit and veg intake and also cutting back on dairy, caffeine and wheat.

Today we're looking at the most difficult thing to do around the festive period; cutting out alcohol. That said, you may have had your fill of it of late and cutting back will make you appreciate it all the more come Christmas.

Your liver is probably in a dire state at the moment, so get rid of all the alcohol in your house, so you're not tempted after a particularly stressful day at the office, or if you just fancy a glass of wine with your meal.

You'll also probably have to avoid social situations for the next week too. Unless you have a will of iron, going to the pub with your friends will undoubtedly make you fall off the bandwagon.

What's surprising is how much we actually drink in a week, and once you cut it out, you'll be able to see just how many units you consume. If you regularly have more than two units of alcohol, or drink more than six units in one go, you're seriously putting your health at risk.

Drinking in moderation is fine, but when you consider that a large glass of wine is actually 3 units, it's easy to see where you're weekly intake goes into overdrive, especially when you're drinking with friends.

Even just having this week off will dramatically improve how you feel, and your liver will start to recover instantly. Alternatively if you're finding your cravings really hard to give up, head to your local health shop and pick up a Chinese remedy called kudzu, it will help you fight the urge to booze.
