Dieting comes hand in hand with Christmas as people try to work off their over indulgences from the festive season or make new years resolutions to loose weight but before you embark on that healthy plan read on to make sure you're not following any urban dieting myths.
Many of us believe that if you eat after 7 pm then the calories are harder to work off and you will gain weight. In actual fact your body stores fat whenever you eat it. It is the amount you eat that is important, not when you eat it.
Some people believe that smoking helps them keep their weight down. Nicotine does speed up your metabolism so you may put on a small amount of weight when you give up but this can be avoided by monitoring your calorie intake and watching what you eat. Now there's no excuse not to give up!
One myth, that would be great if it was true, is that some foods such as celery, contain negative calories so your body burns more calories eating them than they contain. It would be nice but unfortunately no foods contain negative calories but those that are thought to, do contain very few.
It is a common misconception that if something is low fat then it must be low in calories. Actually low fat foods are supplemented by lots of sugar and contain as many or even, more calories than regular versions.
It looks like there is now quick fix when it comes to weight loss. Eating less and exercising more seems to be the best solution.
