Your skin can suffer the harsh effects of the cold weather in winter but the credit crunch plus Christmas means that a facial can be out of your budget at the moment. There is a way to make your skin glow like Hayden Panettiere's on the cheap though.
DIY facials are considerably cheaper than the real deal and easy to do too, especially with our handy tips.
You can create your own skin polisher by adding a teaspoon of baking powder to a blob of cleanser. Massage the mixture into dry skin using circular motions. Work harder on the parts of your face that are usually greasy.
Use a warm cloth to take the mixture off.
The next step is steam. Fill a bowl with warm water and sit with your face hovering over it. Put a towel over your head to stop the steam escaping and stay there for up to ten minutes. This will help to open your pores.
You can also make your own facemask at home and this one is perfect for combating dry skin which comes hand in hand with winter.
Mix one egg yolk with one teaspoon of olive oil and one teaspoon of honey. Apply it to your face using your fingers and leave on for ten minutes. Use a warm damp cloth to remove the lotion. Your skin should be left feeling smoother and less dry.
Finally sooth your face by massaging in some moisturiser. Put a generous amount onto your hands and work gently into the skin. Concentrate on the cheeks, mouth, forehead and around the eyes as these are areas where the muscles tend to be overworked. Once the moisturiser has absorbed into the skin blot any excess left with a towel.
The result should be smooth, luminous skin to rival a celebrity's and their expensive spa trips!
