Budget beauty products seem to be everywhere at the moment and with the credit crunch it couldn't come at a better time.
Mascara for a pound and lip gloss for under a fiver seems perfect but how good does it actually work? Are cheaper products just as good as their more expensive counterparts or is some stuff just worth splashing out on?
Female First hit the make up counters to find out how products up and down the price scale compare.
Today we look at liquid eyeliners.
Liquid eyeliner for just £1, who'd have thought it? Well Primark's Opia liquid eyeliner costs just that. It's easy to put on and survives a night out which we all know can includes a bit of a sweaty face. One pound well spent!
Just up from Opia on the price scale is Elf's liquid eyeliner at £1.50. It looks promising as it's firm brush makes application easy and it is a strong black, unfortunately it came with a stinging sensation so was immediately removed. Sorry Elf, no points for you.
W7's liquid eyeliner, £2.95, again came with a firm brush making application better as drawing a straight line was much easier than with a flimsy brush. It was also surprisingly long lasting for a cheap product.
Boot's 17 liquid eyeliner, £3.49, is also great in the long lasting stakes, seeing the day out. It's a little trickier to put on, as the thin brush makes for easy smudging but once on it's a lovely strong black.
Prestige Liquid Eyeliner, £5.49, comes in a range of great different colours but is not great for those who are beginners when it comes to liquid eyeliner. The colour ran out halfway through drawing the line so it takes a few goes to get your full line and a steady hand is essential.
L'Oreal's Super Liner, £5.99, was head and shoulders above the rest in this competition. The felt tip style end ensures a strong line from the inner corner of your eye to the end of the flick, which lasts for ages. Absolutely amazing!
Max Factor provided the other amazing eyeliner, it's Masterpiece Glide and Define liquid eyeliner, £6.99. Goes on smooth, drawing a nice strong line and lasts all day, what more could you ask for!?
At the high end of the price range was Clinique's Eye Defining Liquid Liner, £11. This was long lasting with a lovely smooth texture it was just let down by its colour. The black is a bit faded so a few lines were needed to build up colour, if you want something light though it is great.
So this time it was a product middle of the price range that came out with top marks. There's a few pennies saved that you can put towards yesterday's mascara!
Come back on Monday to see how bronzers compared.
