Harvey Walden puts Eastenders and Dancing On Ice star Gemma Bissex through her paces

January is officially weight loss month, with everyone wanting to get into shape following the party season but time is of course of the essence. If you want a workout but haven't the time for a full gym session than we have the answer.

Fitness expert Harvey Walden has come up with a workout which lasts only 40 minutes but burns up to 500 calories, the equivalent of a Big Mac!

The Boot Camp workout can be done inside or outside the gym. It is hard work but this ensures that you get the most out of your sparse time.

It is a whole body, military style workout designed to improve both cardiovascular fitness and muscle tone. Harvey says of the routine: "The Boot Camp workout will keep you motivated because it’s challenging - it'll really shape you up and work you hard but you'll see and feel the difference."

Start the routine with a warm up, marching on the spot for one minute. When your fitness levels have improved upgrade this march to jogging for one minute. Then do one minute of straddle jumps, where you jump onto and off a stepbox with your legs either side of it, followed up by steam engines. To do this move stand with your hands behind your ears, bring your left knee up to chest height and twist your body across so your right elbow goes down to touch your left knee. Do this for one minute then repeat with the right knee and left elbow.

Repeat these steps four times.

Onto the proper workout and start with burpee-presses. Start in a press up position, do one press up and then bring your knees up to your chest. Jump in the air, arms overhead and on landing crouch back down and move the legs back into press up position. Repeat this move four times.

Move onto gun drill lunges next. Do one forward lunge then spring up, change legs and drop back into a lunge position all in one move. Repeat this move for ten.

Next comes the hand to toe Ab crunches. Lie on your back, feet and legs up in the air. With your hands forward crunch up towards your toes, as high as you can. Again, do ten of these.

Repeat ten of each of these moves up to four times as your fitness improves.

Finally finish with some stretches.

The Boot Camp Workout takes place in LA fitness gyms. The classes are taken by trainers taught by Harvey himself.
