Christian Dior SS09

Hair was piled high on the catwalks courtesy of John Galliano for Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Lanvin and now Lady GaGa has been sporting a similar look. High hair could be the surprise spring trend.

Galliano's models wore their hair in an almost egg timer shape, using crimped sections of hair while GaGa went for a cone head style braid. If we're happy to wear sculpted clothes, why not do the same with our hair!

If you are not into the harder to achieve, perfectly sculpted style, a messy pile can work just as well and reflects a cool summer vibe.

Another great thing about the up-do is it allows this season's statement earrings to be seen more easily! Two trends in one!

Dior's extreme style may be a bit trickier to achieve but a high bun will have just as good effect, as long as it's worn sleek.

Another advantage to high hair is an image of elegance. The Guardian's Hilary Mantel says: "An updo makes you carry your head differently, straightens and lengthens your spine. With your bun to balance, you tend to turn your head more slowly, and slow movement is said to be the key to elegance."
