With the formalities of winter out of the way hairstyling takes a new, carefree turn in the form of messy buns. Sleek, polished looks are out and loose, boho style buns, a la Sienna Miller and Nicole Richie.
Messy buns used to be restricted to sitting low at the base of your neck but thanks to the topknots seen on the catwalks of Christian Lacroix and Erdem means that high messy buns are totally acceptable now.
It may look easy to do, but creating a bun that looks sexily tousled rather than just messy can be a bit hard.
If your wearing the bun low one tip is to tie the lengths of your hair into a pony tail then take sections of hair and fold them back over to go through the loop of your bobble, making sure the sections all cross randomly. You might need to secure the ends with grips, depending on how long your hair is, so make sure you have plenty to hand. Leave a couple of thin sections loose to frame your face.
To create a cool effortless looking topknot like at Erdem, tie hair into a high ponytail, as far forward on your crown as possible, twist and fold the ends under your bobble and let a few strands hang loose.
Heidi Klum has been spotted mixing plaits into her messy bun, with the result been a striking look. Plait thin random sections in your hair and then pull all back into a low, messy bun for a real beach babe look.
You'll never wear your hair loose again!
