Some women wear a lot, and others wear very little, but would you dare to go bare? Tomorrow is National No Makeup Day but how far would you go without makeup?
Women spend over £30,000 in their lifetime on cosmetics, and over two years applying it - isn’t it about time the fairer sex had a day off? The make up maths says it all - the average woman spends 3,276 hours getting ready in her lifetime and £11.53 a week on cosmetics, and collectively UK women use 8,000 pints of foundation a year!
Over 73% of women wear some form of makeup every day. Whether it’s to hide blemishes or give ourselves a healthy glow, it’s hard to imagine what life would be like without our mascara or concealer. But what are we so afraid of? Is it because we're scared to show our true faces to the world? Or is it just because we've become addicted to how makeup enhances our natural assets? Whatever the reason, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that most women couldn't even pop to the corner shop without makeup, let alone spend the day in public sporting the au natural look.
Jessica Chivers, lifecoach for The Vitality Show, which is giving away a Benefit blusher to the first 50 women to arrive bare-faced, says that spending the day slap-free could be surprisingly liberating: "We spend so much time focusing on the outside - whether it’s looking at glam celebs in magazines or comparing ourselves to our friends - that sometimes we forget to look beneath the surface. By going without war paint for the day, women can refocus on connecting with their peers emotionally rather than benchmarking them physically.
"The other bonus of ditching make up for the day is the extra time. Think of what you could do with an extra 20 or 30 minutes each day - start that book you haven't got round to, have a leisurely breakfast with your family or just get some extra beauty sleep. National No Make Up Day should be the perfect excuse to break with your routine and invest a little time in your inner self!"
We know going make-up less is a bit extreme for some of us but why not try using just some mascara and lipgloss for the day, letting your skin breathe for a while. We're sure after a while you'll grow to love the au natural look.
