Waste not want not is a motto that most of us are adhering to when it comes to our make-up draw.
Nine out of ten women are guilty of applying make-up which is past it's sell-by-date accoring to terre d'Oc make-up brand.
Dried out mascara, cracked lipstick and unwashed brishes not only pose an unhealthy minefield of bacteria but will result in a clumpy, messy and uneven finish.
Give your make-up a spring clean and you'll notice a difference in your skin naturally and when make-up has been applied too.
Here's the guide to the shelf-life of make-up. Follow these guidelines religiously:
Mascara 3-6 months: A moist, wet environment harbours bacteria, so resist pumping the wand as this puts air into the tube forcing bacteria further into the container and dries mascara out, resulting in clumped, spider lashes
Foundation 12 months: As they're not water based, powder compacts offer the longest shelf. Liquid foundations ingredients tend to separate, go lumpy and dry out quicker, resulting in an uneven finish
Lipstick and Glosses 18 months - 2 years: Lipgloss doesn't last as long as lipsticks as we tend to pump it which can put bacteria into the product. If it's discoloured or gloopy, inest in a couple of new products for daytime and evening
Make-up brushes: The worst culprit for harbouring dirt and bacteria, clean in soapy water every couple of weeks to make your brushes last longer and lessen the chances of you putting bacteria into your products
