Beauty is going back to basics this season, and what could be more pure and delicate than a ballerina?

Ballerina beauty is easy to achieve and is also a perfect spring look to make you feel fresh and alert, after a long winter hiding behind your thick foundation.

The natural look in general is the biggest beauty news out there at the minute, as we forecasted way back in December with our Go Nude! feature.

Taking ballerina's as your inspiration, experiment with using a lighter foundation coupled with clear mascara, rather than boring black and feel free to leave your lips bare too.

Sticky lip gloss simply will not do for this style, and neither will matte lipstick. Our top tip is to dig out your pot of Vaseline and start using that instead, as apart from leaving your lips silky smooth, it will also reinforce that 'natural look.'

Whereas once ballerina's were known for their scraped back and gelled hair, the new styles are more about relaxed buns and wavy knots.

Pollini and Gianfranco Ferre featured top knots on their catwalks last season, while Louise Goldin featured the more traditional ballerina bun.

It would look far too severe if you were to recreate a plastered bun for the daytime, not to mention looking like you'd had some painful surgery done as well.

Instead, you want to lightly fold your hair up into a loose bun, and secure with a few pins to keep in place. Let some strands fall down, so it doesn't look too structured and viola, you're a modern day ballerina!
