A/W Make Up Trends: Lush Lips

Every couple of days for the next week or so, we will be choosing one facial feature at a time and showing you what is hot for the cold outdoors. Today: Lips.

Ad always, there are some key trends that are heading our way, some of which are vintage and retro inspired. We think that your lips are something to make a big deal out of and with the help of the right shade, matte and gloss, we'll help you getting those lips utterly kissing perfection.

From No 7 at Boots £10 - lush, longlasting colour that will add instant colour to our tired winter beaten faces. Wear with confidence.

Plum lips are a big deal at the moment and it is not hard to see why. With all the colour, depth and volume here, it's hard to keep the eye away from them. This is a look that will work well if you're a fan of wearing lots of colour and like to experiment with new facial looks. We also recommend this look if you're a fan of all things 40s. Team this look with some classic eye liner and mascara and a quiff or beehive and you're ready to step into the time machine to the fashionable 40s. If you have quite thin lips then find yourself a good lip lining pencil as this will add shape and instant curve to the lip before you fill in with a good, solid plum colour.

From MAC at Debenhams £13.50 - great colour for naturally stained, fuller looking lips. Great for a simple daytime colour, add gloss if needed.

Matte looks are great if you're on the go during the day or having a cocktail at night. The stained look with keep a good colour on the lip for most of the time with only the odd touch up needed every so often. A handy hint, when you're apply your colour, do so using a brush as opposed to the lipstick or the gloss wand directly. This will get the colour into all the nooks and crannies of the lip and not just gliding over the surface. If you want an added shine on top of your stained look then add a sheer gloss, but we like the dull look just as much - it leaves you to make you eyes be your seasonal stand-out statement!

From YSL at Debenhams £22 - Great for girly girls or if you're wanting to keep it natural.

Neutral tones are still very much in at the moment, everything from nude shade to pinky pales this is great for the day look. If you're wanting to keep your makeup looking simple and understated then this is the way to do it. Find yourself a neutral lipstick or pale gloss and lightly apply to the lips, a quick sweep of brown/clear mascara for that added natural look.

From Bare Escentuals at QVC £22 - You cannot go wrong with a bunch of different glossy colours. These beauties will look great on their own or apply over a lippy for added shine.

Glossy lips are the ultimate in kissablity. No matter what the season is, a gloss will go a long way in grabbing attention whether you're on a date or the dancefloor. A good gloss will plump up the lips and add colour to the face when you may be feeling the sting of the sharp, wintery winds. Rich reds, oranges and burgundies are all recommended for adding a healthy colour this season.

From Mac at Debenhams £13.50 - Find a deep red like this MAC lipstick. It will stain the lips easier, last longer and will be a great base for adding gloss to glam up for a night out.

Red lips are everywhere at the moment. Though it can make you look a little drawn if you've not got the right foundation or complexion, there is nothing more sexy or statement than a rich, vintage red. We recommend drawing a crisp line with a lip liner before adding the colour and staining the lips with the brush applicating technique for adding colour. Do this as much as you want to achieve eye-popping tone and add a gloss for extra plump volume. This look will go great with a LBD on a night out or with a preppy midi skirt, broagues and a messy top-bun. Keep the rest of the outfit simple and let your lips do the talking!
